Every journey has a beginning, and ours started with a simple idea: to create a space where artists and audiences could connect beyond the stage.

In June 2023, I began curating intimate concerts that brought together musicians and lovers of culture in a relaxed, meaningful environment. As each event unfolded, I realised people weren't only coming for the music. They were staying for the conversations, the connections and the shared appreciation of Zimbabwean creativity.

Those experiences inspired something bigger.

When it came time to give the platform its own identity, the name Nyimbo zaKwatu, meaning "Our Music" in the Sena language, felt like the perfect fit. It reflects everything the platform stands for. Music belongs to communities. It carries our history, traditions and stories across generations. It connects us, regardless of language or background.

In March 2025, the intimate concert series officially became Nyimbo zaKwatu, marking the beginning of a new chapter. Our inaugural edition, presented in collaboration with Katikitiki Stage, celebrated women in Zimbabwe's creative industries through music, poetry, visual art, literature, fashion and entrepreneurship.

Since then, the vision has remained the same: to provide a platform where emerging and established creatives can share their work while celebrating African identity and cultural expression.

Nyimbo zaKwatu is more than a performance. It is a growing community where artists inspire one another, audiences discover new voices and culture continues to evolve through creativity.

Our music has always told our stories.

Now, we have a place where those stories can continue to be shared.
